Leadership today is often associated with control, foresight, and decisive action. But the kind of leadership that nurtures authenticity, trust, and transformation does not arise from tightening our grip — it emerges from letting go.

At the heart of Trust-Based NOW Leadership™ is a different way of being: one grounded not in certainty or ego, but in presence. This presence is shaped by three powerful philosophies: kenosis, phenomenology, and ontology. Together, they offer a radically honest and deeply human way to lead.

Kenosis: The Power of Emptying
Kenosis is a term meaning “self-emptying.” It invites us to let go of the need to control, prove, or fix. In leadership, this means showing up not full of assumptions or outcomes, but open, with space to listen and respond truly.

Everyday example: A leader walks into a team meeting with a strong plan, but senses tension. Instead of pushing forward, they pause and say, “What are you seeing that I might be missing?”

By letting go of control, they invite trust and deeper collaboration.

Phenomenology: Leading from Lived Experience
Phenomenology teaches us to notice what’s here before our judgments, stories, or assumptions take over. In leadership, this means paying attention to your mood, the energy in the room, or how something truly feels, without immediately reacting.

Every day example: A leader notices they’re short-tempered. Instead of ignoring it, they pause and reflect, “I feel tense. What do I need right now?”

From that presence, their leadership becomes more grounded and conscious.

Ontology: Leadership as a Way of Being
Ontology is the study of being. It asks, Who am I being as I lead? Instead of focusing solely on what we do, ontology brings attention to the inner state from which we lead.

Everyday example: A leader about to give feedback doesn’t rehearse words;  they center themselves in presence and ask, “Can I bring kindness and truth into this?”

From that space of being, their words land with clarity and care.

Bringing It All Together in Trust-Based NOW Leadership
Trust-Based NOW Leadership™ invites a slower, deeper rhythm to leadership. It’s not about perfect strategies — it’s about being present to what is unfolding.

Kenosis helps us release ego and make space

Phenomenology helps us notice our lived experience

Ontology guides who we are in each moment

Together, they shape a leadership that is grounded, attuned, and transformational.

A Simple Practice You Can Try Today
Before your next conversation, pause for a moment and ask yourself:

What can I empty right now?

What am I sensing in this moment — in body, breath, and mood?

Who do I want to be as I lead this next step?

This quiet check-in can shift everything.

Leading from the Now
Trust-Based NOW Leadership isn’t about being perfect; it’s about being real. When we lead from presence rather than performance, we permit others to do the same. And in that space, something wiser, more creative, and more human can emerge.

You don’t have to fill the room with answers. Sometimes, your most powerful leadership begins with the space you leave open.
